Two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) around Bejgaon bus-stand area of Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj.

The deceased, Masud, 35, and an unidentified 36-year-old man have been long enlisted robbers and were killed in a gunfight around 12:30 pm on Tuesday, confirmed Superindent of Police and official of RAB-2, Mohiuddin Faruqi.

The RAB team was following the robber gang for over three months-- who were regularly looting people of Shariatpur’s Muladi area, RAB sources said.

“The deceased, robber Masud’s brother --who was also a bandit-- was arrested last month and receiving information from him we were following Masud.

“Masud robbed a house three days ago and since then he was under our secret observation. When we followed and confronted him at the area, sensing our presence he fired at us,” said Mohiuddin.

When retaliated, the robbers initiated the gunfight that injured two of our members, Constable Monir and Nasir and later we found the bandits injured with bullet shots, added the official.

Masud confessed of looting several houses of the area before he died and RAB also seized 6-7 bhori of gold, a pistol and three rounds of bullets, RAB sources confirmed.
