Two schoolgirls were raped, one of whom was later murdered, in two districts on Saturday.
Police arrested two men in connection with the incidents in two separate districts of the country.
In Bogra, police recovered a dismembered body of a six year old from the Chartala intersection area on Saturday. The child seemed to have been raped and strangled to death.
Police detained a 14 year old, the child’s neighbour, for questioning suspecting his involvement in the rape and murder of the child, police say.
The deceased, Luna Khatun, 6, daughter of a day labourer was a first grader of Thanthania Primary School, sources said.
Luna was missing since Saturday evening and her dead body was found in Malgram around 10pm on the same night, locals say. Informed by locals, police recovered the dead body and sent it for autopsy to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hospital morgue.
Aslam Ali, inspector of Detective Branch of Police, said: “We think the child was lured to the spot and raped by some miscreants. It is probable that Luna knew her rapists and this may have motivated the murder.”
“The murder took place so that Luna would be unable to identify the criminals and they could cover up their brutal deeds,” the inspector added.
In Chandpur, a ninth-grader was gang-raped by three men on Saturday evening in Sadar upazila’s Kherudia village.
A case was filed with Chandpur Model police station against three local youths, Shamim, Shahdat Gazi, and Rahim Khan, who reportedly forced the girl to a deserted garden and brutally raped her.
Police arrested Rahim Khan for his involvement in the crime and produced him in court, said OC Nasim Uddin of Chandpur Model police station.
“A rape case has been filed and the girl was sent to a hospital for necessary check-ups. We will comment on the matter after the investigation,” added the OC.
