Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF along Thakurgaon border

The man had been living at his in-law’s house in India for ten years and was also an Indian ration card holder

A Bangladeshi man was shot to death by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Indian territory along Thakurgaon border early Thursday.

The incident took place nearby Chochpara border area of Baliadangi upazila.

The deceased Joynal Abedin, 35, is of Bhangbari village in Ranisankail upazia, said Lt Col Sahidul Islam, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion 50.

Quoting the victim’s family, the BGB official said he had been living at his in-law’s house in India for ten years and was also a Indian ration card holder.

A BSF patrol team shot Joynal dead when he was detected trying to cross the border from India. “Details will be known after a flag meeting is arranged,” added the BGB officer.
