The local administration of Chowgaccha upazila of Jessore has locked down five houses after a teenage girl with coronavirus symptoms was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital’s isolation unit.
Chowgaccha upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Lufurnahar told Dhaka Tribune on Sunday night that the girl was first taken to upazila hospital with coronavirus symptoms, and then was transferred to the Jessore Medical College Hospital’s isolation unit.
She also said sample from the patient has been sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka for testing.
Confirming the matter, Chowgaccha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahidul Islam said the five houses were locked down and any person who was in contact with the girl has been sent to quarantine.
Till Sunday, Bangladesh confirmed five deaths and 48 infections from Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus.
The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has infected 722,196 people and claimed 33,976 lives till 10am on Monday, according to Worldometer.
Globally, a total of 151,766 infected people have also recovered from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
