Mobile court foil child marriages in Tangail: Two separate mobile courts on Saturday fined two people who were about to marry off their under-age daughters. One Abul Kalam was fined Tk40,000 for arranging his school-going daughter’s marriage in Sakhipur upazila. Meanwhile, Shahinur Miya was fined Tk5,000 for arranging his 14-year-old daughter’s marriage in Kalihati upazila, said Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ashrafun Nahar.

RAB fines businessman for hoarding medicine: A mobile court conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday fined a businessman Tk50,000 for stockpiling medicines in his home in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj. The accused Sharafat Ullah Master was storing various essential medicines in his home in Baghbari area of Nabiganj but couldn't show necessary documents, said RAB Additional Superintendent of Police Md Alep Uddin.

Youth killed in clash over cricket match: A young man was killed in a clash which ensued during a cricket match in Guabari of Jamalpur municipality on Saturday. The deceased Hridoy, 18, son of Mukti Miya initially fell unconscious after one Hasan reportedly hit him on the back of his head with a cricket stump. He was later declared dead at a local hospital. The accused is on the run and a case will be filed, said Jamalpur Sadar police station OC Md Salemuzzaman.

Train engine catches fire in Comilla: A train engine caught fire on Saturday near Alishahar rail station of Lalmai upazila and left the railway communication between Dhaka-Chittagong and Chittagong-Sylhet route suspended for an hour. No causality was reported, however some passengers were injured while rushing to leave the train, said Mosharrof Hossain locomaster of the Dhaka-bound Chattala Express that caught fire.

AL leader's office vandalized, Chhatra League leader arrested: A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League and four others were sent to jail on Saturday for vandalizing an Awami League leader’s office in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj. Awami League leader Babul Shiekh said the accused Babul Hossain, and his followers attacked his office, during which he was also injured. However, Hossain claimed he was brought to the office and beaten. Two cases were filed in connection to the incident, said Tungipara police station OC AFM Nasim.

Woman found dead in Shariatpur: A woman's body was found hanging from the ceiling at her in-law's house in east Lonsing village of Naria upazila. The deceased is Taniya Akhter, 23. Police arrested three women after a murder case was filed against them and Taniya's brother-in-law, by the victim's mother Maksuda Begum. According to the case statement, four years ago, the deceased woman’s husband left the country and never visited. Meanwhile Taniya cooked and ate separately in her in-law's house where she was often abused. Naria police station OC Hafizur Rahman confirmed the death.

Kashimpur Central Jail inmate dies in Gazipur hospital: A convicted criminal serving time in a robbery case at the Kashimpur Central Jail, died undergoing treatment at a Gazipur hospital on Friday. The deceased Masud Rana, 38, was taken to hospital from Kashimpur Central Jail when with sudden chest pains. Jailor Salma Khatun of the prison confirmed the incident. Masud was accused in a case filed over planning a robbery, the jailor added.
