A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with police that took place in the Khayerbagan area of Santhia upazila in Pabna early Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Abdul Alim aka kalu, 35 was the son of Khorshed Ali Kosai from Rasulpur village of the upazila, said Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gautam Kumar Biswas.
Gautam said: “On a tip off, a team of Santhia police station conducted a raid at Khayerbagan area around 2 am on Saturday to catch a gang of drug dealers. Realizing police presence, the drug dealers opened fire on us, forcing police to fire back. At one point, the drug dealers fled and police recovered one injured drug dealer named Kalu from the scene.
"Later, Kalu was taken to Pabna General Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead. Police recovered one shutter gun, two rounds of bullets, one machete, and 100 yaba pills from the scene." he continued.
Gautam Kumar Biswas also said Santhia police station Sub inspector Feroz Sultan and constable Shuvo sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight.
