A Panchagarh court has handed over a land to its rightful owner from the family of former Kurigram DC Sultana Pervin, who had been illegally laying claim to it for the last 14 years.

Tetulia Senior Assistant Judge Court’s Judge Liton Chandra Roy gave the verdict in favour of the plaintiff Amirul Islam on March 12.

Nazir Md Tamiz Uddin of Panchagarh District and Sessions Judge Court, along with police, handed over the almost 11 bigha (3.68 acres) land back to Amirul and his family on Wednesday.

Amirul’s family said, as Sultana Parvin’s family members are significantly influential, even though the court had previously given verdict in their favour, they weren’t able to claim their land.

Amirul Islam, saying he and his brother had been struggling to make ends meet by driving vans for the past 14 years, was over the moon to finally get back their ancestral land.

Sultana Pervin was withdrawn from Kurigram after she came under fire following the questionable arrest, incarceration, and torture of Dhaka Tribune journalist Ariful Islam by a mobile court raid she approved.
