A Sirajganj court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife 19 years ago

Teen killed, family members held for questioning: A 15-year-old girl was abducted from her house and then brutally murdered in Narsingdi's Palash upazila early morning on Wednesday. Police detained four of her family members for questioning. The girl went missing that night and when searched she was found brutally murdered and strangled in a nearby field, said Palash Police OC Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin. "We detained the four for questioning and sent the girl's body for autopsy," he added.

Man to die for killing wife: A Sirajganj court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife 19 years ago. Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Fazle Khoda Md Nazir delivered the verdict in absentia as the convict Sonatan Chandra Bhowmick is on the run, confirmed Special Public Prosecutor Sheikh Abdul Hamid Lavlu. In August 2, 2001, Sonatan beat and strangled his wife Shawpna Rani to death, the case statement say.

Seventh grader raped by neighbour: A 12-year-old girl was raped, reportedly by her neighbour, in the Birulia area of Savar on Tuesday. Police arrested the accused, Monir Ahmmed, 52, was illicitly stalking the girl for a while and when on Tuesday she went to use the bathroom of her home, he broke into the bathroom and raped her. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the place, caught Monir in the act, and handed him over to the police, said Birulia Police Outpost OC Apurbo Datta.

Death-row convict finally arrested in Gazipur: Police on Wednesday arrested a death-row convict from Gazipur's Boubazar area for killing a school student of Chhatak upazila. The arrestee, Saleh Ahmed, 25, remained absconding for five years after abducting and killing Mostafizur Rahman in 2015. Later the after finding the body in Sylhet, acting on the charge sheet filed by police Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced him to death, police say.

Brac official crushed to death by train in Khulna: A Brac official was crushed to death by a train at Bejerdanga level crossing in Fultala upazila on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Sheikh Shamsul Haque, 51, manager of Bejerdanga branch of Brac. The Dinajpur-bound train hit Shamsul while he was crossing the rail tracks around 10:30am, leaving him dead on the spot, said Md Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Fultala Police Station.

Human chain formed against ex-Kurigram DC Pervin: Entrepreneurs of union Digital Centres formed a human chain against former Kurigram DC Sultana Pervin in front of press club on on Wednesday in connection to the illicit recruitment at the union parishad offices violating a High Court rule. They demanded cancellation of previous appointments and recruit from among the entrepreneurs as the DC overlooked the High Court's rule and started recruit people illegally.

Young man electrocuted in Jessore: A young man was electrocuted at Baliadanga Khanpur in Manirampur upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Mukunda Roy, 35, son of Amulya Roy of the area.The incident took place in the afternoon when Mukunda, a carpenter, came in contact with a live wire while working with a drill machine at his house, said sub-inspector of Manirampur Police Station Ashraful Alam.
