A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been sent to prison for allegedly attempting to rape a first grade student at Abidpur village of Burichong upazila.
The incident occurred on Sunday.
The accused Abdul Wadud, 42, is the son of late Abdul Mazid, and a member of 34-BGB in Cox’s Bazar.
Wadud reportedly lured the minor girl to a room next to his house on March 11, with promises of treating her to ice cream.
When the girl became uncomfortable and started screaming, he sent her away with Tk 5.
After getting back home the victim informed her grandparents about the incident.
On March 14, some villagers confronted him at a local market with their suspicions, leading to an altercation. Wadud was beaten up and handed over to the police.
Burichong police station officer-in-charge Mozammel Haque said Wadud had been sent to prison through court in a case filed over the rape attempt.
