11 arrested for murder in Gopalganj: Police on Thursday arrested 11 people in a case filed for killing Rony Hawlader, an SSC examinee in Sadar upazila. Law enforcement picked them up from Bangram in the early hours. “A total of 15 out of 24 accused in the murder case have been arrested so far,” said Gopalganj Sadar police station OC Monirul Islam adding that the arrestees have been sent to jail following a court order in the afternoon.

Roof collapse kills woman in Chittagong: A woman died and her two daughters injured as the roof of their house collapsed on them at Sadeknagar village in Fatikchhari upazila on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Jinia Akhter, 26. Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the roof of the house collapsed in the morning, leaving Jinia and her two daughters injured. Jinia later died on the way to the hospital, said the ASI.

Man to die for murder: A Khagrachhari court on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his friend in 2011. The convict identified as Mohammad Yusuf, has also been fined Tk10,000 by the court. According to the prosecution, Abdullah, 28, of Khagrapur in Sadar upazila, was stabbed to death by the convict on September 25, 2011. Delwar Hossain, brother of the victim, filed a case in this connection. Police arrested Yusuf from Feni a month after the incident.

Two Allahr Dal men held in Nilphamari: Police on Thursday arrested two suspected members of the banned militant outfit 'Allahr Dal' from two different areas of the district. The arrested are Saiful Alam, 37, and Zikrul Ahmed, 32. Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Md Mokhlesur Rahman told a press briefing that acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Saiful while he was conducting a secret meeting and Zikrul, wanted in a case, was arrested in Sadar upazila.

Six shops fined in Barisal: A mobile court on Thursday fined six shops with Tk25,500 for selling food items in unhygienic conditions, expired items and imported goods without price tag. The mobile court conducted by Safiya Sultana, assistant director of divisional office, accompanied by Shah Shoaib Miah, assistant director of district office of the directorate in Kawnia and Hospital Road areas and fined them.

Husband, wife arrested for NGO graft in N’ganj: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB 11) early on Thursday detained a man and his wife from Dhaka for conning people out of large sums of money by running a phony NGO. The detainees were identified as Md Ziaul Amin alias Harun Or Rashid, 53, and his wife Dauletun Nessa, 42. They were scamming people with a bogus NGO called the National Human Rights Unit. During primary interrogation, Ziaul Amin confessed to their crimes and confirmed that his wife, acting as his finance secretary, is an associate in the scam. Necessary legal actions are underway against the detainees, confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police and Senior Assistant Director Alep Uddin.
