A police constable of Barisal police lines reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his own gun while on duty on the rooftop of the newly constructed police barrack in the city on Friday.
The deceased Hridoy Chandra Das, 21, was the son of Sukantho Chandra Das from Kunjerhur Chakdut village in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola district, said Barisal Superintendent of Police (SP) Saiful Islam.
Saiful said: "After hearing gunshots around 12pm, colleagues of the deceased rushed to the rooftop of the newly constructed 6-storey police barrack and took Hridoy to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) where on duty doctors declared him dead."
He continued: "Two suicide notes and a photo of a girl were recovered from his pocket. The note said that nobody was responsible for his death and Hridoy asked forgiveness from his younger brother Sumon."
He further stated that Hridoy joined district police lines 17 months ago and police are investigating the matter.
