The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) picked up a Bangladeshi cattle trader from the Mollarchar border in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram district early Friday.
The detained cattle trader was identified as Azhar Ali, 42, son of Nantu Sheikh from Bohelar Char of the upazila, confirmed BGB-35 Battalion Director Lt colonel SM Azad.
Azad said: "Azhar and 15 to 20 cattle traders were smuggling in cattle by setting up a ladder over the barbed wire in Mollarchar border around 1 am on Friday."
"At one point, BSF members of Jhawdanga camp chased the cattle traders and detained Azhar near international demarcation pillar 1061, while the others managed to flee the scene," he said.
He added that BSF handed Azhar over to Mankachar police station in the state of Assam.
