Police on Thursday arrested the prime suspect in a sensational case over the murder of 15-year-old Sraboni Rani in Thakurgaon’s Sadar upazila.
The arrestee, Shohag Bormon, 22, was a step uncle of the deceased, from Jagannathpur union of the upazila.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the murder following a primary interrogation, police said.
Narrating the incident, Sraboni’s cousin Gobindo said Shohag visited Sraboni’s house on Wednesday afternoon. Finding her alone he attempted to rape her. Following a failed rape attempt, Shohag proceeded to slit Sraboni’s throat before fleeing the scene.
Sraboni’s father Bhobesh Chandra filed a case with Thakurgaon Sadar police station following the incident.
Thakurgaon Sadar police station OC Tanvir Hossain said: “We have traced the suspect using the most advanced technology available to us. The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.”
Meanwhile, the case has begun to unravel and police would be able to provide further detail later in the day, he added.
The 15-year-old girl was found dead in her own residence with her throat slit in Paltan of Akcha union on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile on Thursday, CM Ayub Girls High School students formed a human chain demanding the maximum punishment of the reported killer.
