Police have arrested a local Awami League leader in Kushtia in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for spreading defamatory information against an incumbent lawmaker on social media.
Awami League's Kushtia district unit former member Mominur Rahman Momiz was arrested from his house in the town early Thursday in connection with the case, Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Tanvir Arafat said.
Jahirul Islam, a supporter of MP Selim Altaf George from Kushtia 4 constituency, filed the case against Momiz and two others -- Robi Rahman and Shimul Ahmed Khan -- with Kumarkhali police station on Wednesday night, he said.
Meanwhile, a court in Kushtia sent Momiz to jail on Thursday, the SP added.
Jahirul said the case was filed as the trio including Momiz shared defamatory, false and fabricated information about the MP on social media.
