Couple found dead in Joypurhat: Police recovered the bodies of a married couple hanging from a tree near their house in Gudumba village of Akkelpur upazila on Sunday. The deceased were Shahin Mia, 35, and his wife Asha Parvin, 27. Their bodies were sent to Joypurhat Sadar Modern Hospital. The cause of their deaths will be determined by an autopsy, said Akkelpur police station OC Abu Obayed.

Two month Hilsa ban begins: The government's two month ban on the catching, selling, and transporting of Hilsa began yesterday. A 90 kilometre stretch of the Padma and Meghna rivers have been declared a sanctuary for Hilsa as the ban came into effect. The ban is scheduled to be lifted on May 1. Md Asadul Baki, district fisheries officer, said drives were being conducted from 12am to 1:30am yesterday to monitor any violation of the ban, but no fisherman was sighted on the rivers.

Jamalpur Islamic party protests violence against muslims in Delhi: An Islamic organization, Ittefakul Olama, in Melandah upazila, Jamalpur, held a rally and brought out a procession on Sundayprotesting the recent violence against Muslims in India's capital Delhi. The Hindu-Muslim clashes in Delhi began over a citizenship law that the Indian government introduced in December, providing a path to Indian citizenship for six religious groups from neighboring countries, except Muslims. At least 38 people were killed in the violence last week, Indian police told Reuters.

Deputy high commissioner to Kolkata pays tribute to Bangabandhu: Deputy High Commissioner Toufiq Hossain appointed to Kolkata, India, paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on Sunday. Among others, high commission officials, members of an organization of doctors and Union Parishad chairpersons paid their tributes by placing wreaths at his grave in the morning. They also took part in a prayer for the martyrs who died for Bangladesh's independence.

Drama festival begins at JU: Jahangirnagar Theater organized a six day long drama fest, ‘Nattoshromer char doshok natto parbon-2020,’ on Jahangirnagar University(JU) campus, on Sunday. Prof AKM Shahnawaz of the Archeology department inaugurated the program. The organization brought out a procession that paraded across campus and ended with placing floral wreaths at the grave of renowned Bangladeshi playwright Selim Al Deen. The closing ceremony of the drama fest will end on March 6 with a reunion of current and former playwrights of Jahangirnagar Theater.

Man found dead in Tangail: Police recovered the hanging body of a man from Boubazar village in Sadar upazila, on Sunday. The deceased, Rasel Mia, 30, was the son of Mazom Ali from the village. Tangail Sadar model police station OC Mir Misharaf Hossain said: "Being informed, we recovered the body, hanging from a betel tree in the village. The body was sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy."
