Suspected robber killed in Moulvibazar 'gunfight'

An alleged leader of a robbery gang has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Moulvibazar district.

The incident took place in Bortal village under Kagabala union in Sadar upazila early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Bulu Mia,40.

Moulvibazar Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mohammad Ziaur Rahman said: "On a tip-off, police tried to catch a gang of robbers who were escaping after committing robbery at a home in Komla Kolosh village under Nazaribad union.

"Realizing a police presence, the robbers opened fire, forcing police to fire back,  in Bortal village under Kagabala union" he said.

He continued: "At one point, Bulu, the gang leader got in the line of fire and died. Police detained two members of the gang, Lal Mia, 45, and Afzal Mia, 28, while others managed to flee the scene."

Five police members sustained injuries, while and pistol, bullets, two CNGs, and looted belongings were recovered from the spot, he added.
