A BNP activist was stabbed dead and his brother severely injured in an intraparty attack in Chandihara Kholagachi intersection under Shibganj upazila of Bogra on Thursday.
The deceased, Apel Mahmud, 35, died on the spot, and his elder brother Al Mamun, 38, was taken to a hospital after all his fingers were cut off.
They were both active members of BNP’s Gokul union unit.
According to local and police sources, the brothers were called to Chandihara Kholagachi by an alleged domestic animal trader around 8am.
Mizanur Rahman Mizan, former president of Gokul union unit Swechchhasebak Dal and his associates waiting their arrival, dragged them out of a moving bus as they reached the spot around 9am.
They killed Apel on the spot and chopped off Mamun’s fingers.
Mamun was rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, Apel’s body was sent for autopsy in the same hospital, he added.
Bogra Sadar police station Inspector (Investigation) Rezaul Karim Reza said: “Police are conducting drives to arrest the culprits behind this incident.”
Former Gokul union Swechchhasebak Dal president Suman Ahmed Bipul said: “On February 23, 2018, unidentified miscreants attacked Mizan and his associate Soni in the district. Apel was one of the key suspects in the murder case.”
Soni died on the spot and Mizan was severely injured. Since then, an internal feud broke out between the two groups led by Apel and Mizan, Bipul added.
