A former Awami League leader has been attacked and killed by unidentified miscreants in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali.
The incident took place on Saturday night.
The deceased - Didar Hossain Sourav, 36, was the former president of Awami League's Char Balua village unit (ward no-6) of the upazila.
Two others - Bahar Miah and Md Hossain - were also injured in the incident.
Companiganj police recovered the body from Char Balua police outpost on Sunday morning.
Didar Hossain Sourav | Dhaka TribuneQuoting witnesses, Char Balua police outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Zakir Hossain said: "Didar used to earn money by renting out his own excavator machine to others. Bahar was one of the machine operators.'
On the night of the attack, Didar, Bahar and Ahmed were counting their payment for the day, when several masked miscreants attacked them.
He said: "At one point, the miscreants slaughtered Didar and ran away."
Companiganj police station Inspector (Investigation) Md Rabiul Haque said: "A team from Char Balua police outpost recovered Didar's body from the spot around 2am on Sunday.
"The body will be taken to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy."
The police official said they are thoroughly investigating the matter and strict action will be taken in this regard.
