A three year old was reportedly raped by a 55 year old in Madaripur on Thursday.
The accused is Asmat Ali Khan, 55, from Charkamarkandi Palpara of Nilokhi union of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur.
Police and family sources revealed that on Thursday afternoon, Asmat went to visit his son at his home in Tekerhat residential area. At this time he lured the three year old daughter of his son’s neighbour and raped her, all the while playing loud music to drown out her screams.
Afterwards, crying in pain, the child told her mother about the incident. When locals caught wind of the incident they tried to settle the matter unofficially, but on Sunday the family admitted the child to Madaripur Sadar Hospital and filed a case with Rajoir police station.
Police caught Asmat from Kabirajpur in Rajoir upazila at about 11pm Sunday while he was fleeing.
The victim’s mother said: “It is beyond me how someone so old can molest a three year old child! I demand strict punishment of this culprit.”
Dr Akhil Sarkar, resident medical officer of Madaripur Sadar Hospital said: “A child has been admitted to the hospital after reportedly being raped. We are treating her and doing all the necessary tests.”
Shaokat Jahan, Rajoir police station OC, said: “A case has been filed by the father of the victim in this connection and the accused has been detained.”
