Over 25 yaba dealers currently in police custody are willingly taking part in the ceremony to be held on Monday to conclude their identities as fugitives and to become responsible citizens of the country

Update : 02 Feb 2020, 09:51 PM

Some 20 to 25 yaba dealers are set to surrender at a formal program on the Teknaf Govt College premises, arranged by Cox's Bazar police.

Inspecting the premises where a stage and seating arrangements are still being set up, Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police Iqbal Hossain on Sunday said the program which was inaugurated last year to encourage local youths and drug addicts toward a better future, is going to be held for the second time.

Over 25 yaba dealers currently in police custody are willingly taking part in the ceremony to be held on Monday to conclude their identities as fugitives and to become responsible citizens of the country, said Iqbal.

The ceremony will be held in the presence of Chittagong's Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khandaker Golam Faruq, and the drug dealers are going to be sent to district prison after their surrender.

Sources say the dealers have been kept at a safe house in Cox's Bazar Police Lines.

On February 16, 2019, over 100 godfathers and dealers of the contraband drug yaba, surrendered at a program held at the Teknaf Pilot School grounds in the presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Home Secretary Mustafa Kamal Uddin.
