Two children were reportedly raped in separate incidents in Sirajganj and Habiganj on Tuesday.
In Sirajganj, a seven-year-old girl was raped in Teghori village under Kamarkhand upazila's Jhaoil union.
Police arrested the child's neighbour, Inu Miah, 55, last afternoon in a case filed in this connection.
Kamarkhand police station OC Habibul Islam said Inu took the child to a deserted place luring her with candies and raped her. The girl’s mother filed a case Tuesday night.
The accused will be sent to jail via a court order on Thursday, the OC added.
In Habiganj, an eight-year-old girl was raped in Umednagar village of Habiganj municipality.
The accused was identified as Shahin Miah, a neighbour of the girl.
According to locals, Shahin called the child to his room and raped her. Shahin fled the area when the locals rushed in hearing the child's scream.
The injured child was immediately taken to the Sadar hospital.
Dr Molondha Abidur Reza of the hospital’s emergency department said: “Rape of the child can only be verified after medical tests.”
Habiganj Sadar model police station OC Mashuk Ali said: "I have heard about the incident and will take necessary steps as soon as we receive a complaint."
3 suspects arrested for gang rape
Police arrested three suspects in a case filed for the gang rape of two girls in Moulvibazar.
The arrested were identified as Akash, 25, Munna 25, and Humayun, 23.
According to the case statement, on Tuesday afternoon, the girls were returning home from college in a three-wheeler. Four men got into the vehicle and hijacked it. They abducted the girls to an isolated place behind the Moulvibazar Stadium and raped them there. They also robbed them of their phones and money.
When the girls managed to inform police, they were taken to Moulvibazar 250-bed District Sadar Hospital.
Later, a case was filed accusing five men in this connection.
Moulvibazar model police station OC Alamgir Hossain said police are trying to arrest the remaining suspects.
