A 30-year-old suspected motorcycle hijacker has been killed by a lynch mob in Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore district.
The incident happened around 10:30 pm on Saturday.
The deceased could not be identified yet.
Locals said Bidyut Mondal, from Haridaskathi village in Manirampur upazila, was going back home on a motorcycle, when three hijackers blocked his way in Sundali Bazar area of the district. The riders put a gun to his head and asked him to go away leaving the motorcycle behind.
Bidyut grabbed one of the hijackers and screamed for help. Locals rushed to the spot and lynched the hijacker.
Abhaynagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam said: "On information, we reached the spot around 11am and found one of the hijackers dead."
"The other two hijackers managed to flee."
Police is working to identify the deceased, he added.
