A fourth-grader has reportedly been raped by an unidentified youth in Ambagh area of Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
The incident took place on Thursday evening.
The victim, 11, lived in Kishoreganj with her grandparents and came to visit the house of her parents, who were staying in Ambagh area, adjacent to Jahangirnagar University, on December 28.
According to family members, the girl was playing on the street beside her house when she was picked up by a young man.
He took her to the ground floor of an under-construction house and violated her, the family said.
Later, the rape-survivor returned to her house and informed the matter to her parents. She was then taken to Jahangirnagar University's medical centre.
As her condition deteriorated, the girl was shifted to the One-stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Friday morning.
Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rokibul Hasan said: "We are trying to identify and arrest the rapist. A case will be filed in this connection.”
