Mother-daughter found dead in Kurigram

Police on Thursday recovered the bodies of a woman and her 13-year-old daughter from their house at Tangalia Para of Kurigram’s Rajibpur upazila. The deceased are Nazma Khatun, 34, and her daughter Josna Begum, 13. According to locals, Nazma used to work at a local factory. Nazma’s sister, who also works at the same factory, went to check on her as Nazma did not go to work on Thursday. Nazma’s sister did not get a response from inside the room despite repeated calls, and then she looked through the thatched wall and found Nazma and her daughter lying on the bed. On being informed by locals, police recovered their bodies in the morning. Rajibpur police station Officer-in-Charge Pritthis Kumar Sarkar said they are primarily assuming that the duo may have been poisoned. The cause of death will be known after a postmortem examination, the OC said. Nazma’s husband Rafiq was not found at the house. Police are searching for him.
