Update : 03 May 2017, 03:41 PM
A man has been arrested in a case filed over the apparent suicide of a man and his daughter after being denied justice. Sreepur police Sub-Inspector Kaiser Ahmed said Shaheed, 40, was a close associate of the case's prime accused Faruk and was named in the case. Shaheed was arrested from his house in Goshinga union's Karnapur village early Wednesday. His wife Shefali Akter said Sreepur police picked up her husband around 3am. She said police told her that they were taking Shaheed away for questioning but she learned in the morning that her husband was an accused in the suicide case. Hazrat Ali, 45, and his eight-year-old daughter Ayesha Akhter apparently jumped before a train near Sreepur Railway Station on April 29, after failing to get justice over attempts to violate the minor girl and grab his land. Gazipur district police formed a three-member committee on Tuesday to investigate the deaths.

New probe committee formed

On Wednesday afternoon, police announced that they were forming another probe committee to look into the incident. Additional Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka Range Mohammad Ali said the four-member committee, headed by himself, was formed on the orders of the inspector general of police. The other members of the committee are Additional Superintendent of Police Sadira Khatun, Additional SP Akhteruzzaman and Additional SP Solaiman. The committee will submit a probe report to police headquarters in seven work days.
