Two individuals have been killed in reported gunfights with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cox's Bazar and Pabna districts.
The incidents took place on early Tuesday.
In Cox's Bazar, a suspected drug trader named Md Rubel, 22, was killed in a reported gunfight at the Marine Drive area of Teknaf sadar around 4am.
According to RAB, Rubel was also an active member of a robber gang as well as an arms trader.
RAB 15 Company Commander Lieutenant Mirza Shahed Mahtab said: "Acting on a tip-off that a big consignment of yaba was going to be smuggled in the area, a RAB patrol team conducted a drive there."
Upon realizing that law enforcement were present, the drug trader waiting there opened fire on them, forcing the RAB officials to also fire back in self-defence, triggering a gunfight.
Rubel was caught in the line of fire and got injured. RAB took him to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead, the RAB official added.
"His body has been kept at the hospital for autopsy. We are working on taking legal steps over this incident," the RAB company commander said.
RAB also found a local gun, 10,000 yaba pills, three bullets, and two bullet shells from the spot.
In Pabna, a suspected robber named Amin Sheikh, 40, was killed in a reported gunfight with at Rajapur in sadar upazila, reports UNB.
Aminul Kabir Tarafdar, company commander of RAB 12, said on information that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit robbery; they conducted a drive at Rajapur at 4:30am.
Realizing that law enforcement was present, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight, he said.
When the robbers fled the scene, RAB officials recovered the wounded Amin from the spot. When he was taken to Pabna General Hospital he was pronounced dead by doctors.
RAB sources said he is an enlisted criminal. There were 11 cases, including three murder cases, filed against him with sadar police station.
A foreign pistol, three bullets, a machete and five bottles of phensidyl were recovered from the spot.
