Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a suspected leader of the banned militant outfit Allahr Dal from Gaibandha.
Md Azmat Ansari was arrested from Puraton Jailmor area on Friday morning, RAB 13 Media Officer Major Galib Muhammad Natikur Rahman said.
He said: "Acting on a tip off, a special team of RAB conducted a raid, and arrested Ansari. He is the district commander of Allahr Dal.”
"During the raid, we also seized Jihadi books and leaflets."
During primary interrogation, Ansari informed the elite force that he was arrested and sent to jail in 2006, for his involvement with militant activities in Gaibandha.
He was arranging secret meetings at his eclectic shop with other members of the organization, the RAB said.
“We handed him over to Gaibandha Sadar police after filing a case,” Major Galib said.
