Police on Monday arrested six people in connection with the Awami League (AL), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) clash on Sunday on the Kalibari-Eliot Bridge road, Sirajganj.
Sunday night, a case was filed under the Special Power Act, 1974, by Sadar police station Sub-Inspector Joydeb Kumar, accusing 190 unidentified activists of BNP, Jubadal, and Chhatradal, confirmed OC Md Daud of Sadar police station.
The detained, Idlu Sheikh, Tipu Sultan, Anwar Hossain, Shubho Sheikh, Biplob Sheikh and Sohel Rana were sent to jail by the district court, sources say.
They were arrested from Hossainpur, Putiyabari, and Goyla in the district.
On Sunday at least 40 people were injured in a clash between supporters of Awami League and BNP at the Sirajganj Govt College procession, joined by almost a thousand people and supporters of Awami League (AL).
The clash erupted when the rally was crossing a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) scheduled protest at the Pouro Bhashani Milonayanton.
The skirmish lasted for almost two hours, leaving 40 people injured on both sides.
The clashing groups also set ablaze the BNP office and ransacked several shops in the area where the incident took place.
