Three transport workers have been detained for allegedly sexually harassing a female student of Chittagong University (CU) on a running bus.

They were apprehended from Bahaddarhat bus terminal in the port city around 8pm on Saturday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Asif Mohiuddin of Detective Branch of police said.

He, however, did not disclose the identities of the detainees.

"A press briefing will be held in this connection on Sunday," the police official added.

The incident of sexual harassment allegedly by two staffers of a bus of Shohagh Paribahan surfaced on the media on November 28, after the victim narrated her ordeal on her Facebook wall, which drew reactions among netizens and the fellow students of the university.

The victim was returning from her sister's house at Patiya upazila to the port city's No 2 gate area on November 27 by a bus of Shohagh Paribahan, according to the student.

When the bus reached Bahaddarhat area, all the passengers got down from the vehicle.

As soon as the victim student found herself alone in the bus, she wanted to get down from it, but the two staffers assured her that they would drop her to the destination.

After some moments, the duo tried to put off her hijab and took away her mobile phone.

As she had started screaming for self-defence, the bus driver asked them to release her.
