Petrol pump owners to go on strike in 3 divisions from Dec 1

They have called the strike for an indefinite period of time

Petrol pumps owners and operators in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions will go on strike to press home their 15-point demand.

Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association Central Secretary General and Mizanur Rahman Ratan announced it during a press briefing at the Bogra Press Club on Tuesday.

He said if their demands are not met by November 30, they will go for an indefinite strike.

Mizan, also the secretary general of the Tank Lorry Owners and Workers United Association said, all petrol pumps of the three divisions will refrain from selling and transporting of fuel during the strike, he said.  

Their 15-point demand includes increase in commission from fuel sales; stop police harassment of lorries carrying fuel on the roads; stop extortion from municipalities; and dismiss the order to collect licence for pumps from the Depart of Environment. 

Top level leaders of petrol pump owners’ and workers’ association were present during the press briefing.
