Man arrested in Netrokona with touchstone worth Tk1 crore

Police arrested an antiques smuggler with an oval shaped touchstone worth over Tk1 crore, from Kalmakanda border area of Netrokona district on Friday night.

The arrested who was produced in court on Saturday is identified as Md Alamgir, 19, son of Shahjahan Miah from the Chhoy Takkar Bridge area of Kalmakanda upazila.

Acting on a tipoff, Kalmakanda police conducted a drive disguising themselves as buyers of the touchstone at one Noel Sarkar's residence, one of the gang leaders, managing to seize the touchstone and arrest Alamgir. However, Noel managed to escape.

Kalmakanda police station OC Md Mazharul Karim confirmed the matter.

Locals reported that Noel Sarkar, 38, has been living in Kalmakanda for nine years. He is from Bajua village in Dacope upazila of Khulna.

Kalmakanda police filed a case against Noel Sarkar and Md Alamgir along with 4 other unidentified individuals.
