Idols desecrated at Tangail Kali Temple

Unidentified miscreants broke into the Silimpur West Senbari General Kali Temple in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila and vandalized five idols early Wednesday.

Following the incident, members of theBangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP), came and inspected the spot.Meanwhile, Tangail4 MP Hasan Imam Khan, along with the Deputy Commissioner Shahidul Islam, and the Superintendent of Police Sanjit Kumar visited the spot in the afternoon.

Pratish Chandra, president of thetemple committee, said: “After waking up at dawn I went to the temple and saw our sacred idols desecrated. I demand punishment of the responsible through proper investigation.”

In this regard, Gobinda Chandra, BPUP’s general secretary, said: “Whoever broke into the temple and vandalized the idols, committed a heinous crime. I would urge police to make sure that this kind of incident is not repeated."

“I also urge conscious locals to look after and guard the temples from such acts of violence,” he added. 

Kalihati police station OC Hasan Al Mamun said: “Legal steps will be taken against the miscreants who broke into the temple and vandalized the idols.”
