307 fishermen jailed, fined in Manikganj during ilish ban

Government imposed the ban from October 9 to October 30

Mobile courts have jailed at least 307 fishermen to different terms in Manikganj during the 22-day ban on transporting, catching and hoarding of mother ilish across Bangladesh.

The mobile courts seized 3,547 metric tons of ilish and fined the fishermen a total of Tk560,000 for violating the government ban, which ended on Thursday.

Mohamamd Maniruzzaman, fisheries official of District fisheries Department , disclosed the information in a press briefing held at his office on Thursday, reports UNB.

A total of 125 drives were conducted by mobile courts , while 319 cases were filed during this period.

At least 5,292,000 meters of electric nets were also seized in the drives, which were burnt later.

Shibalaya Upazila Executive Magistrate AFM Firoz Mahmud was also present in the press briefing.

The government imposed the 22-day ban on catching, selling, transportation and hoarding of ilish from October 9 to October 30.
