2 killed as roof collapses at Barapukuria coal mine building

Injured seven other have been sent to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex

At least two workers were killed and seven others injured when the roof of an under-construction building of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) in Dinajpur collapsed on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Akash Chandra, 16, son of Shomor Chandra of Bajitpur village in Fulbari upazila, and Proshanto Ray, 17, son of Debura Ray of Hamidpur Chougachi village in Parbotipur upazila of the district.

The incident took place on the premises of the coal mine in between 5pm and 5:15pm, BCMCL Deputy Assistant Engineer Sajedur Rahman said.

“The injured were sent to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex,” he added.

Sultan Mahmud, in charge of Barapukuria police outpost, said a unit of Fulbari Fire Service rescued the injured after the roof of the under-construction power substation collapsed on 8-10 workers working there.
