Ferry services on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route in the Padma River under Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj had resumed on Friday, five days after the services were halted due to poor navigability.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) had halted ferry services on that route on Sunday. The services resumed from around 10:30am on Friday.

However, later around 10:30pm, authorities again halted ferry services till 7am Saturday due to poor navigability.

Shimulia ghat Assistant Manager (business) Shafayet Hossain confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury, deputy general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Shimulia ghat, said the ferry movement had to be stopped earlier due to lack of sufficient water in the channel.

According to BIWTC, water level in the channel is not more than 5ft in depth. However, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) said water level in the channel is not more than 9ft.
