A Chittagong Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal has given life imprisonment to a mason for raping g a madrasa girl in 2016.
Judge Moshiur Rahman Khan handed down the verdict on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The convict, Mahmudur Rahman Haider was also fined Tk40,000.
Confirming the matter, prosecutor Jesmin Akter said: "The court sentenced Mahmudur to life imprisonment on the charge of rape. He also got 14 years of imprisonment for abducting the girl."
According to the case dockets, on August 4, 2016, Mahmudur abducted and raped the 10th grader, studying in a local madrasa of Banskhali upazila.
Later, police rescued the girl from Kalurghat Hamidchor area. The survivor's father lodged a case accusing Mahmudur of abduction, rape and demanding ransom.
