6 Shibir men held with crude bombs, jihadi books

Nine crude bombs, jihadi books, seven mobile SIM cards, five cell phones were seized

Police have detained six activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, along with crude bombs and jihadi books in Naogaon town.

They were detained early Sunday.

Naogaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdul Mannan Mia disclosed the matter at a press briefing held at Sadar police station on Sunday afternoon.

Six crude bombs, 15 sound bombs, and jihadi books were also seized from their possession, he said.

“Acting on a tip off that at least 30 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir were holding a secret meeting, law enforcement raided a house located at Namajgar Madrasapara around 4:30am,” the police official said.

“They were holding the meeting to commit sabotage in the district,” he added.

Police were able to apprehend six of them but the rest managed to flee, the SP said.

The six detainees are -- Abdul Mannan, 20, Rabiul Mahbub, 19, Abdus Sabur, 19, Mohiuddin, 19, Alamgir Hossain Mithu, 35, and Mehedi Hasan, 19. 

A case would be filed against them under Anti-Terrorism Act, he added.
