13 gamblers arrested from BNP leader’s cowshed

Police arrested 13 gamblers with a large sum of cash, and seized various instruments used for gambling, from a local BNP leader’s cowshed in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga.

The arrested were identified as: Jamal Uddin, 32, Isahak Ali, 40, Abdul Mannan, 36, Abdul Hakim, 38, Md Alamin, 37, Md Liton, 32, Jahid Hossain, 30, Forhad Miya, 26, Oliur Rahman, 36, Md Milton, 32, Murad Hossain, 44, Alfaz, 38, and Manik Miya, 30.

According to police sources, a team of police led by Jibannagar police OC Sheikh Gani Miya, conducted a drive at Baka Union BNP unit General Secretary Munshi Abul Kashem’s cowshed adjacent to his house early yesterday, and arrested the men with Tk40,000 in cash, and various gambling instruments.

Jibannagar police station OC Gani Miya said: “The prime suspect Munshi Abul Kashem was not found during the drive, but he will soon be arrested. A case was filed in this regard, and the arrested have been sent to the district court this morning.”
