World Sight Day 2019 was observed at Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex (CEITC) yesterday.
As part of observing the day, a colorful procession was brought out from CEITC campus in the city’s Pahartali area.
Kicking off the procession, renowned eye specialist and CEITC Managing Trustee Prof Dr Rabiul Hossain said that people suffer from eye problems mainly due to their ignorance.
“Eye is one of the vital human organs. So, it is important to take care of our eyes. Poor vision makes it difficult to read, drive and cook. Good vision contributes to improved athletic ability, better driving skills, improved learning and comprehension and better quality of life,” he said.
Previously, a seminar was held at Imran Seminar Hall in CEITC on the theme of World Sight Day. Dr Syed Muhammad Asifur Rahman presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Speakers at the seminar said smoking is one of the reasons for vision loss. A person should see ophthalmologists at least twice a year, they said. Many eye problems and diseases can be treated if diagnosed early.
World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
