2 women die of dengue in Khulna, Faridpur

The unofficial death toll stands at 176 so far

Two women have died of dengue in Khulna and Fardipur districts.

Both of them died on Tuesday.

In Khulna, a woman named Ashtami Sen, 45, died while receiving treatment for dengue at Khulna Medical College Hospital around 2:30pm.

The hospital's Resident Physician (RP) Dr Shailendra Nath Biswas confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

The deceased, who was from Jessore's Keshabpur upazila, was admitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with dengue around 12:30pm the same day.

Seventeen patients have so far died of dengue in Khulna since January.

According to Khulna Divisional Health Directorate, 9,115 people were infected with the disease in 10 districts of the division, while 108 new patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours as of Monday.

In Faridpur, a woman named Manju Rani, 55, died of dengue while being under treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital around 1am.

Confirming the matter, the hospital's Director Dr Kamada Prasad Saha said Manju, who was from Rajbari sadar upazila, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning.

Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque said a total of 14 new dengue patients were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, while 77 other are undergoing treatment, reported UNB. 

A total of 348 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours till as of 8am on Monday.

Of them, 90 people were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka while the rest 258 outside the capital, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to DGHS, the death toll is 84 where as unofficially 176 people died from this disease.
