ABangladeshi man was beaten to death by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the Kathaldangi border area in Haripur Upazila of Thakurgaon.
The deceased, Kamal Hossain, 30, was the son of Hakim Uddin from Geruadangi village in the upazila.
Lt Col SNM Samiunnabi Choudhury of BGB Battalion 50 confirmed the murderous act and said BGB protested the incident at a flag meeting with BSF on Friday morning.
At the meeting, BSF denied any such incident took place.
BGB Company Commander Subedar Mohiuddin from Kathaldangi led the flag meeting with BSF Company Commander, Inspector Himmat, from Nargaon.
BGB sources said about 8 or 10 people tried crossing the border at the 370 no pillar area around 1am on Friday when BSF apprehended one Kamal and beat him up, leaving him severely injured. After BSF let Kamal go, he fell unconscious on no man's land and died.
Lt Col Samiunnabi said the BGB retrieved Kamal's corpse on a tipoff from border agents. Kamal had several injury marks and his right hand was broken.
