A woman filed a rape case with a Bogra court against an Assistant Engineer of the Joypurhat Water Development Board (WDB) for raping her in an unregistered marriage.
The woman filed the case on Thursday against Engineer AKM Nojmul Hasan, son of late Najib Uddin from Bogra town.
Judge AKM Fazlul Haque ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case after a hearing the same day, confirmed Bogra Judge Court Advocate Rezaul Hoque Rajab.
According to the case details, the woman was single and a mother of two, when Nojmul developed a romantic relationship with her in 2011. On November 2 of the same year, an unregistered marriage supposedly took place between her and Nojmul at a rented house in Kalitala area of Bogra town.
After their marriage, they were living as a married couple in Bogra till this year. Nojmul refused to register his marriage in spite of occasional pressures by the woman.
In February of this year, he left the woman. The woman desperately in need of support visited Nojmul on August 2, when he denied their marriage and forced her out, physically assaulting her.
Nojmul couldn't be reached over the phone when contacted by Dhaka Tribune. Journalists of other media houses said he denied the allegations of marriage or of raping the woman. Nojmul also said the woman is trying to extort a large sum of money from him.
Joypurhat WDB Executive Engineer Rafiqul Islam Choudhury said departmental action will be taken against Nojmul if allegations of rape or any other crimes are proven true.
