A woman was reportedly gang-raped by a police officer and his informant in Jessore.

The incident took place at the woman's house in the Sharsha upazila early yesterday.

Following the incident, she decided to file a case in this regard. When she went to Jessore General Hospital for medical tests in the morning, reporters in the district came to know of the incident.

According to her statement, her husband used to be a drug mule, but now was a farmer. On August 25, Sharsha upazila's Gorapara police camp in-charge Sub-Inspector Khairul came and picked up her husband and later demanded Tk50,000 for his release. She tried to seek help from the police but to no avail.

Around 2am yesterday, SI Khairul along with his informant Kamrul came by her house to talk about her husband. They once again demanded Tk50,000, which resulted in a conflict. At one stage, Kamrul forced himself on her and raped her along with SI Khairul and left.

She decided to file a rape case and went to Jessore General Hospital in the morning. From there, the doctor notified Jessore Kotwali police station and conducted her medical tests.

Jessore Superintendent of Police Moinul Hoque said: "This is a very serious allegation. The matter was notified to higher officials and an investigation team is looking into the matter.

"Once the medical report is submitted, necessary action will be taken. If the allegations are found to be true, the police officer won't get any consideration."
