RAB seized around 16,000 litres of domestic liquor from Dhaka’s Bashundhara area, block P, on early Tuesday.
RAB 4 commanding officer Mozammel Haque told the Dhaka Tribune that there was also an exchange of fire during the raid, which ended around 3 am.
Mozammel Haque said, “During the fire exchange, they fled via a trawler in the Balu river.”
He said, the area beside the Balu river is very silent and flooded with catkin flowers. In order to reach the riverbank, one must first walk 5-6 kilometres.
“After being prepared, the liquor would be kept at 5 to 7 points around the riverside. It would then be distributed to different areas,” he added.
RAB, however, could not identify the producer of the liquor and the specific areas it was supplied to.
RAB is, so far, destroying the liquor reserved in a large huge number of drums at Bashundhara.
