Police on Sunday arrested a man from Sirajganj Sadar upazila in a case filed for raping a 15-year-old teenage girl in May last year.
The suspect Ziarul Sarkar Zia, 45, from Char Domkandi village of Bogra’s Sariakandi upazila, is also an accused in a child-abduction case, filed on Sunday by the girl’s uncle. Early Sunday, Zia abducted the girl’s six-month-old kid, who was born because of the rape by the suspect, said OC Al Amin of Sariakandi police station.
Police has also arrested Zia’s sister Sujanta Begum for aiding the abduction of the infant.
According to locals and police sources, Zia was the father of two children when he developed a romantic relationship with the girl last year. Soon he raped her promising marriage, and after the girl got pregnant, the girl’s family came to know about the incident. The girl’s uncle filed a rape case against Zia on November 13, 2018.
On Saturday night, Zia abducted the kid reportedly to pressurize the girl’s family to withdraw the rape case. However, he was caught by some locals in Sirajganj town when the baby started crying. Sirajganj police held the suspect and the baby, and transferred them to Bogra.
Zia and his sister Sujanta was produced before the court on Sunday afternoon, and the court sent them to jail custody.
