A Rapid Action Battalion team arrested an active member of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Sanarpar area in Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj early Sunday.
The suspect was identified as Sheikh Dinas Uddin, 40, alias Deen Ahmed, who hails from a neighbourhood under Sarail police station of Brahmanbaria district, confirmed RAB-11 Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shah Md Moshiur Rahman.
ASP Moshiur said: “Sheikh Dinas Uddin was preaching extremism, and recruiting members from Narayanganj for some time. After a primary interrogation Dinas said that he joined militancy in 2018, and he is also an expert in martial arts, and the use of arms.”
RAB recovered a large number of books, and pamphlets offering extremist views from the possession of the accused. Necessary actions will be taken against him, added the RAB official.
