At least eight people were killed and 15 others injured in road accidents across the country on Monday.
In Gaibandha, a man was killed and two others injured when a bus hit a battery run rickshaw-van on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in the Fashitala area of the Gobindaganj upazila.
The deceased was identified as Haripad Chandra Das, 38, who died on the spot in the morning. His 12-year-old son and the van driver were admitted into a local hospital after the accident, said OC Abdul Kader of the Gobindaganj highway police station.
In a separate incident in the Sadullapur upazila of the district, a man was killed under the wheels of a Lalmonirhat-bound inter-city train when he tried to jump off the moving train in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Chandan Chandra Barman, 37, said Bonarpara railway police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohidul Islam.
Chandan's nephew Mrinal Kanti Roy said Chandan was on his way to Naldanga to invite his relatives for his daughter's Annaprashana ceremony.
In Kurigram, two motorcyclists were killed when their motorbikes collided head-on in the Manoj-Tapoti area on the Kurigram-Nageshwari road in the afternoon.
The deceased were Jahedul Islam, 30, from the Kurigram Sadar upazila and Alamgir, 35, from the Ulipur upazila, confirmed Nageshwari police station OC Rowshan Kabir.
In Magura, a woman was killed and three others injured when a pick-up truck rammed an auto-rickshaw into a road-side ditch in the Kachundi area of the Sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Rehna Akhter Koli, from the Kalinagar village of the same upazila. Magura highway police SI Safur Ahmed confirmed the incident.
In Thakurgaon, a man was killed when a tractor coming from the opposite direction hit his bicycle on the Pirganj- Ranisankail road in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Akhtarul Islam, 65, from the Nayanpur village of the Pirganj upazila, confirmed Pirganj police station SI Abu Taleb.
In Sylhet, a youth was killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a human hauler in the Pargana Bazar area of the Sadar upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sohel Mia, 26, from Purbo Shrirampur of the Daskhin Surma upazila.
Shahporan Police Station OC Abdul Qayum Chowdhury confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile in the same upazila, a motorcyclist was killed when his vehicle collided with a roadside tree in the early hours at Ghopal point.
The deceased is Uttam Kumar Das, 30, from the Gopalpur village in Sunamganj's Derai upazila, said OC Akil Uddin of Jalalabad police station.
