A female drug smuggler from Myanmar has been killed in a gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Four of the woman's associates were also injured in the skirmish on the Naf River on Thursday, the BGB said.
The deceased is Jaheda Khatun, 50, wife of one Kalu Miah of Myanmar’s Mongdu.
"The drug peddling gang opened fire on patrolling BGB from their boat Thursday morning," BGB Cox’s Bazar Commander Col Rakibul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune.
"In retaliation, BGB men fired back, leaving one dead and four injured. A boat was seized with a large number of yaba tablets.
"A press briefing will be called for informing details about the matter," the BGB commander added.
