Around 2,600 people came to an eidgah (an open-air enclosure reserved for Eid prayers) on the water to attend the Eid-ul-Azha congregation at a remote place in the submerged Chalan Beel of Sirajganj district on Monday.
Since the morning, people of all ages wearing colourful clothes thronged the newly constructed two-storey structure, which is surrounded by water at Boropangshi in Ullapara upazila, to offer the prayers.
Residents of three villages -- Narasinghapara, Shukalhat and Shuklai -- and neighbourhoods came to the congregation place boarding on boats as no other means of communication was there.
As the area usually goes under water during the monsoon, Mostofa Jahangir, a resident of the area and a writer, took the initiative to build the Eidgah which seems floating during the rainy season.
The Eid congregation was held for the first time formally this year after the completion of the construction works.
Moreover, people from different areas come to visit the Eidgah by boat every day.
