Rail communications between Dhaka and northern-southern regions of the country have been restored three hours after an intercity train in Tangail derailed.
Bangabandhu Bridge railway station (East) Master Masum Ali Khan confirmed the matter.
He said, following restoration, the derailed Sundarban Express left for Khulna around 4:30pm on Friday.
Railway engineers managed to put the derailed compartment of the train back on tracks even before the rescue train had reached the spot.
Earlier, the intercity train went off the tracks near the Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail after leaving Bangabandhu Bridge Railway Station (East) around 1:30pm, causing suspension of Dhaka’s rail links with the northern and southern parts of the country.
Due to this incident, Dhumketu Express, Ekota Express, Nil Sagar Express, among others, were stranded at various stations.
